The city of Jacobābād lies at a combination of the Pakistan Western Railway and essential streets through Sindh. It was spread out in 1847 on the site of the town of Khānghar by General John Jacob, the region's first chosen authority.
Jacob, who spread out the cutting edge city, is respected through achievements, and, amazingly, his pony has been memorialized by a mud pyramid. The city was consolidated as a region in 1875. It is noted for its dependably high temperatures and holds the record for the most raised temperature recorded in Pakistan, 126° F (52° C) in the shade.
Produces consolidated cotton carpets (ghālīchah), lacquered wooden toys and lights, and winding around. Grain markets and handling mark what is happening at the point of convergence of a rice-and grain-creating region.
The city has a couple of sporting facilities, Victoria clock tower (1887), a common telecom station, and government schools banded together with the University of Sindh (1947). Pop. (1998 prelim.) 137,733.
